The finest example of a medieval manor house in England that is still exists is the Haddon Hall. The hall is situated south of Bakewell and lies alongside the River Wye and is one of the seats of the Duke of Rutland. The house is in a beautiful location and is well preserved and it looks magnificent. With gargoyles and crennelated walls of the entrance courtyard still looks perfectly medieval. Hall chapel lays to the right hand side of the courtyard which is the same as it was in the medieval times.

It also contains beautifully carved alabaster retablo and pre-Reformation frescos that have been revealed from beneath the whitewash which hid them for centuries. Theres a glorious 14th century Banquet Hall with minstrel’s gallery that can be seen while entering the main house. Its dining room is an oak paneled room with miniature portraits of Henry VII and his queen. A Tudor period gallery and some fine gardens lie beyond this.
