No trip to The Peak District would be considered complete without a trip to the wonderful village of Bakewell. There you will find The Old Original Bakewell Pudding Shop which dates back to the 19th Century.
The Bakewell pudding was thought to have been discovered by accident around 1860. A nobleman was travelling through The Peak District and stopped at a local Inn (the then White Horse). He ordered a strawberry tart but there was a misunderstanding between the Innkeeper and the cook who , instead of stirring the egg mixture into the pastry, spread it on top of the jam and The Bakewell Pudding was born !
A local woman then began to make Bakewell Puddings from her home, the site of which is now The Old Original Bakewell Pudding Shop.
The shop sells Bakewell Puddings, biscuits, sweets, jams chutneys and a great deal more. They also have a restaurant and offer gastronomic tours.
If you are visiting the Peak District, visit Bakewell and its unique Bakewell pudding shop.
