Peak District Rock Climbing

Over 10,000 recorded climbs of all types of difficulty with a wide range of gritstone and limestone crags can be seen in the Peak district. The Peak district is one of the popular climbing areas in Britain. Most of the first climbing was done in Laddow Rocks and Castle Naze, many routes in Stanage Edge was officially 'out of bounds'.

In the Chew valley there are gritstone crags that provide strenuous hard gritstone routes, Laddow has easy routes and the Longendale valley provides an enjoyable selection of climbs when the conditions are right, with a complete range of climbs there is a concentration of gritstone crags around the moors above Hathersag.

Higgar Tor, Burbage Edge and Millstone Edge have hard and strenuous routes while Froggatt Edge is easier and sheltered. Derwent valley and Curbar Edge are like Millstone Edges but Baslow and Birchens Edges are easy, Gardoms Edge is green and wooded with varying standards of routes. The Peak in the west has gritstone edges that are relatively small and broken. The limestone edges provide a different climbing experience with the steeper rocks and less friendly cracks.

Peak District Fishing

Peak district offers excellent fishing in the surrounding lakes and rivers and is ideal for fishing enthusiasts. If you want a variety of one of water sources then Blessing owing is one place where you should fish. There are various fishing camps as well as fishing courses for fly fishing. For those that only want a short stay, there are crash courses in angling, not to mention the rod hire facilities and camping sites available.

If you want game fishing then the surrounding areas offer all kinds of support and rental facilities. The River Wye offers about 7 miles fishing which you have to book in advance, so whether you are a fly angler or a coarse angler then you cant afford miss the opportunities the Peak District has to offer.

Peak District Water Skiing

Peak District offers an interesting range of water skiing experiences, water sports are one of the main recreations in the Peak district. Longendale valley provides a variety of recreational activities, including a sailing club in Torside reservoir where you can water ski and fish, though Water skiing can be a little expensive. Peak activities offer cable water skiing in the Peak District National park.

There are 55 reservoirs in the Peak district and there is a great demand for water sports. Carsington Water is a reservoir of Peak District National park in Derbyshire is famous for its water sports. If your looking to go skiing then the skiing season in the Lake District starts in November and ends in April, you can Ski on the steep North West side of Mam thats covered with snow. Sheffield has one of Europe's largest dry slopes, where you can ski and snowboard.

Peak District Canoeing

There are a variety of rivers throughout the Peak district and surrounding areas where you can go Canoeing. Beginners can get instructions on basic paddling skills, safety, and what to do should you overturn the canoe. Equipment you need to use along with the canoe would be a life jacket, and helmet, but before you start canoeing an introduction to moving water or white water skills, breaking in and out, ferry glide, and negotiating rapids would help.

While canoeing you want to wear warm comfortable clothing, for foot wear you can wear an old pair of trainers or ideally wet suit boots, all technical equipment will be provided with the canoe or the kayak.
